Case Study: Betsey Johnson

A bold Halloween campaign for Betsey Johnson, brought to life through two standout videos. From a Sabrina-inspired mixed reality haunted handbag to Tim Burton-style full CGI ghost sneakers, we kept the products front and center with unforgettable visuals.

Betsey Johnson Halloween Campaign

2 videos. 2 worlds. One unmistakable brand energy.

Betsey Johnson is one of those rare fashion brands where the identity is instantly recognizable. Loud, playful, fearless, unapologetically fun. Betsey’s world was never built around “following trends,” it’s it all about personality: bold color, quirky details and a sense of chaos that still feels perfectly designed.

For campaigns, that kind of brand DNA is a true creative gift. It naturally sparks dozens of visual ideas because it already lives somewhere between fashion, fantasy and pop culture. It’s expressive, theatrical and made to be turned into moments people would not scroll past. Simply speaking – perfect inspiration.

And behind it all is Betsey herself: founder, icon and the face of the brand’s energy. Her presence doesn’t just represent the label — it is the label — which made her feature in the campaign feel like the most natural thing to do.

Campaign Objectives

This Halloween campaign was created to launch Betsey Johnson’s seasonal collection through two different creative directions:

  • Haunted Handbag — an unusual, story-driven Mixed Reality piece

  • Ghost Sneakers — a colorful, playful Full CGI product journey

The goal was to hit the spooky Halloween mood while keeping the products as the main characters of each visual story.

Video 1: Haunted Handbag (Mixed Reality)

Concept

For the Haunted Handbag, we wanted to create something more than a product shot. We wanted a full narrative moment that feels like you’re discovering a secret world inside your holiday bag.

First of all, the story is told from an unexpected perspective: we’re seeing the inside of the bag from the POV of something living inside it. The video opens on Betsey Johnson herself, wearing the handbag, instantly putting the story in a real-world fashion moment.
Then the camera pushes into the bag’s door detail, using it as a natural transition point into the CGI world.

Inside, we reveal a spooky little room — a clear creative reference that smoothly sets the Halloween tone without distracting from the product. The rummaging action (Betsey’s searching for lipstick inside her bag) creates a simple, believable trigger for motion and chaos, letting us showcase mixed reality dynamics + realistic physics while keeping the bag as the “container” of the entire concept.

This approach turns a simple product shot into a narrative-driven moment, while still serving the main goal: make the bag the hero, and make the visual unforgettable.

The interior environment was inspired by Sabrina the Teenage Witch, specifically the cozy-but-mystical vibe of Sabrina’s bedroom. That client reference helped us strike the perfect tone: spooky, nostalgic, playful. Not horror but definitely haunted.

We even included the legendary black cat as a subtle nod to the show’s iconic familiar energy.

Production Breakdown

Even though the final result looks effortless, the world inside the bag was built completely from scratch in 3D, step by step:

  • mockups and layout exploration

  • modeling every element of the interior separately

  • composition and look development

  • lighting and atmosphere refinement

  • details perfecting to make the scene feel alive

The most technical part was the “hand interaction” moment. When the hand reaches for the lipstick and moves through the environment, everything around it needs to react believably. This meant dialing in realistic physics and movement for every small object inside the bag.

Haunted Handbag piece is where Mixed Reality becomes powerful: you get the realism of the real-world interaction along with the freedom to design a fully surreal environment around the product.

Video 2: Ghost Sneakers (Full CGI)

Concept

For Ghost Sneakers, the focus was a dynamic product overview with a Halloween twist. Instead of a standard fashion-shot format, we turned it into a mini cartoon journey where the sneakers literally become the main characters.

The sneakers run through a series of Halloween-inspired locations and we follow them like a playful chase scene. The movement keeps the viewer locked in, while the camera angles are designed to show the shoes clearly from multiple perspectives, so it stays both entertaining and product-focused.

The visual language here was inspired by a Tim Burton-style Halloween universe — bold shapes, quirky silhouettes, surreal atmosphere and a slightly twisted-but-cute charm.

That reference gave us the perfect foundation for a world that feels spooky and iconic — very Betsey. The sneakers felt like a natural extension of our Halloween fantasy setting as if they were designed to belong inside it.

Because this piece was Full CGI, we had total control over the entire environment and how the product moved through it. We played with camera points and pacing to make the video feel more dynamic and mesmerizing but once again focused on what matters most in advertising: a clear, satisfying product showcase.

Why This Campaign Worked

This project is a great example of how CGI can support a brand in two ways at once:

  1. Build entertainment and storytelling that feels native to social platforms

  2. Keep the product front and center without sacrificing creativity

Betsey Johnson already lives in playful chaos beloved by the fans. Halloween just gave us the perfect excuse to push it even further.

Two different formats. Two different creative energies. One signature brand identity with a CGI twist.
