How the WHY CGI production pipeline works - from idea to render
In the world of CGI and mixed reality, the final 15-second video you see on your feed - often surreal, immersive and impossible to ignore - represents the result of a highly structured and collaborative creative process.
At WHY CGI, we’ve built a production pipeline that balances the speed social media demands with the craft and polish our clients expect. Below is a behind-the-scenes look at how an idea travels through our pipeline - from the idea to the final frame.
Step 2: The Business of Creativity
Once we align creatively, we quickly move into structure: budgets, contracts, pre-payment.
Not the sexiest part, but essential to protecting both creative ambition and deadlines.
Clarity at this stage builds trust that allows us to move fast later.
Step 3: Prototyping the Impossible
This is where the magic begins. Our creative team presents concept decks, moodboards, and often animatics that let clients "see the invisible" - before a single pixel is rendered.
Client feedback isn’t treated as a hurdle - it’s a roadmap. We iterate fast, often landing on a version that’s stronger than what anyone envisioned initially.
Step 4: Into Production
Once the idea is locked, the pipeline kicks into full gear. Shooting begins (when live elements are involved), then our CG artists take over. This is where hours disappear into lighting, texture, physics, and rendering.
Every reflection, every surreal movement, every visual illusion is carefully built.
Step 5: Ready to Go Viral
After rounds of internal reviews and polishing, we present the final asset to the client. When approved, it’s delivery time - often straight into the wild world of TikTok, Instagram Reels, or DOOH campaigns. This is where all the structure pays off: the video is ready to post, and the impact is measurable.
At WHY CGI, we like to say we don’t just make videos. We make visual events. And that requires more than great design - it requires a bulletproof pipeline, a lot of collaboration, and a shared obsession with the viewer's reaction.
